In his installation, "reverse of volume RG," Yasuaki Onishi uses the simplest materials — plastic sheeting and black hot glue — to create a monumental, mountainous form that appears to float in space.
This time-lapse video documents Yasuaki Onishi's Rice University Art Gallery residency from 20 March through 10 April, 2012, during which he and an assistant created "reverse of volume RG."
"Objects suddenly did not have smooth boundaries. Things no longer moved smoothly. Motion took place in picture frames. It looked like someone paused and unpaused the flow of the world very rapidly. Even more amazing: JP was suddenly able to see vivid fractal images of objects with a fractal structure (such as, broccoli)."
