'Brussels Sprouts' The vapour of European Parliament by Jasanský & Polák BRUSSELS SPROUTS Recently a group of photographers, perhaps inadvertently, revealed that the European Parliament is often almost completely empty, and the rest is just a Potemkin Village. Lukáš Jasanský and Martin Polák is a pair of sarcastic artists who could easily set up a TV channel to amuse even the most disenchanted and skeptical of intellectuals. It would broadcast in black-and-white, full of technical difficulties, with the two of them at the helm, having the most fun of all.

Ikipr

I'm very pleased to announce that I'm collaborating with the immensely talented Ikipr on Dead Language, his music has fed my own current for sometime now.

Ikipr is creating a soundtrack of Hyper-Dimensional music that is both sublime and powerful. His work on Dead Language beautifully complements the work FP have been manifesting within rehearsals, it adds another solid layer of Magick from a true master. 'Ikipr has been working in Music and Magick concurrently for the past nine years. His work attempts to create magickal states in harmonics. In this way he works through pre-established systems in a cross-discplinary fashion, however, to record this VIA waveforms requires a scholary chaos magick approach.

He runs the netlabel at aleph9 and attempts to work in the background of information oriented communities to fuel and aid the great work in any role which he may be able to fit.'

The Irrepresibles at Lazy Gramophone

Lucy and I were lucky enough to be invited to last nights Lazy Gramophone at the Luminaire.

Lazy Gramophone are an art collective that have the most wonderful and unique attitude that host events at various venue's throughout London, while also publishing books and other other associated media.

The Irrepresibles were playing last night, watching them perform was truly a divine experience. As performers and musician's they dont sit or fit into any catergory easily. I wont spoil them by attempting to describe them, because this would ruin your introduction to them visually, for they are indeed a new species.

One our ears and minds very much need.

Terra Indigenous - Killa Flaw

Killaflaw are an explosive act consisting of Benn Helm and Andy Paton. They have been working together for three years but only formed officially a year ago due to other band commitments.

They created a stir on the underground scene when Benn was a guest vocalist at gigs for various nights around the North West.

Benn Helm - Benn has also performed in many bands and music projects. He gigged in the The Royal Albert Hall and Summer Pops with The Jones's, backing James Brown, and has been in bands such as Nanmess and Circus. Nanmess were a hard-hitting rock band whilst Circus were Bluesy with elements of psychedelic rock. He writes his own acoustic material and was also a member of Hendrix-esq band Kush.

His original interest in the rave scene has brought them together. His raw, energetic and bluesy vocal style, unique songwriting skills and talent for memorable and catchy guitar riffs are essential to the Killaflaw sound. Live, his vocal is like having a steam engine driven over your face.

Myth Creation

Myth creation is a funny thing, Its very different from the construction of normal stories or narratives.

Myths must live on when you look away, they must breathe and live and fight for existence. In some ways they must already exist and wait for the right eyes to look upon them and see that they are ready and their time has come.

A group of incredible artists have joined myself and FP to look upon Terra Incognita and see that this Myth is now alive.

Terra Incognita is Open Source and each artists working within its landscape are wiping away the dream like clouds to see how they exist within the various realms of this Myth.

Terra Incognita will exist in solid form from the 31st of March 8pm as a colossal meta event that has broken through to this version of reality.

The construction of the next world has begun.

January 22, 2007

Dionysian Underground at Pleasure Lab

Dsc00017

The Dionysian Underground conducted an absolutely stunning opening ritual, very powerful stuff. They were even joined by Orryelle and Giselle of Metamorphic Ritual Theatre and our brothers and sisters of the FooLuminati who provided the most amazing and sacred of clowns. I have only just met Orryelle and Giselle after they came to see Cycle VI on Friday, both are very solid and good people, Orryelle gave me a copy of his book a Brief Hirstory of Time after the ritual on Sat. They are both conducting their Em'Balm a three hour individual restoration ritual over the coming week. They can be contacted via the DIG"s list to book.

A very enjoyable evening, I only wish I could have stayed longer but I had to head back to Hertfordshire.

Thank you to everyone who came to Cycle VI. Will start talking about about Cycle VI and debriefing on Dark nights soon, still decompressing.

The image below was taken on Saturday night at Pleasure Lab, this man needed stomping. You can just about see his head.

491 Gallery...

...is a gallery like no other!
It is a unique Sustainable Community Regeneration Art Project (SCRAP) that has been addressing the needs of the local community for five years in a way that no other organisation could. It is an evolving Arts Piece, a meta-conceptual living room, a pirate utopia, reclaiming neglected land and property and giving something incredible back to the community with a healthy balance of art, regeneration, education, performance, gardening, and diversity of life.

This is why we are proud to announce the 491 Gallery as our official sponsors for the final two cycles of ‘Dark Nights of the Soul’, providing us with a creative space with which to develop our work in this very special environment.

During this time, FoolishPeople will be open source, sharing our skills, resources and abilities though a symbiotic relationship with the 491 Gallery and the surrounding community. FP would like to thank Stef, Lisa, Vittoria and Santi in enabling this to happen. We look forward to this exciting residency!

Redefining the Prologue

Prologue

The Horse Hospital has a new exhibtion from the 7th of October to the 4th of November 'Redefining the Prologue': an exhibition featuring original cover artwork, paintings, sculptures, and a programme of screenings and music from the legendary eighties record label SOME BIZZARE.

Some Bizzare featured the most important music from the UK's underground scene of the early eighties. The The - Soul Mining is still one of my all time albums. This looks to be very special.

A Series Of Works

Greetings Foolish People. I'm writing to inform you about a series of pieces that I plan to write to a somewhat unusual blueprint.

I intend to pen several pieces around the work of London based death metal band Dam. The idea being to allow the music from the album 'Purity: The Darwinian Paradox' to inspire my prose, using the song titles as rough thematic guides for each piece.

Hopefully this combination of heavy music and prose will yield some interesting results. You may want to check out Dam to get a feel for their fresh take on extreme metal- do so at myspace.com/spiritualvoid.

The first piece entitled 'Spiritual Void' will follow next week. Stay tuned Fools...

Control - the Ian Curtis Film.

Holdingmic

'Control is being produced by LA / Pittsburgh Based Claraflora with Deborah Curtis as co-producer.

The film will expand on Deborah's Touching From A Distance book, which was a personal account of her life with Ian Curtis, to give a fuller account of the man and his life. To achieve this, writer Matt Greenhalgh has interviewed all the relevant people including Annik Honore. Ian Curtis's was in a relationship with Annik at the time of his death and she has previously declined to discuss the matter with the media simply saying it was "too painful".'

Looks like Samantha Morton is confirmed for the role of Deborah Curtis, and there have been rumours naming Jude Law for the role of Ian Curtis, but casting wont be finished until spring this year.

Miasma Join Dark Nights of the Soul

Miasmabigger_1Do you remember my post a while ago, the one where I fawned over Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses? Well if you do, and if you listened to the album then you will be as equally ecstatic as I am at this piece of awsome news;

'Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses have joined forces with the FoolishPeople Magickal Theatre Company for their latest opus, "Dark Nights of the Soul". We will be performing live for this production every second Saturday of the month for 6 months, beginning November 12th 2005.'

If your appetite was merely dampened beforehand it must be virtually dripping now; an avant-rock instrumental quintet playing through a chaos magick, shamanistic ritual theatre production designed with true Art of Darkness.

Book your tickets with us now, and don't miss a single episode, because you'll regret it on your deathbed.

Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses.

Miasma

'Miasma & the Carousel of Headless Horses are a British instrumental quintet that plays dark, antiquated sounding music encompassing elements of Eastern European folk, avant-rock, broken-down calliope music, and neo-classical film composition.'

Wow. I was just introduced to this quintet via Myspace, beautiful, amazing composistions.

Catholic Priest Defends Marilyn Manson

A Catholic priest has defended controversial rock star Marilyn Manson ahead of his concert in Croatia. Anton Bobas - the lead singer of his own metal band - said Manson was unlikely to "turn young people into Satanists" during his performance.

The gig, taking place in Pula on 22 August, has been condemned by a number of Croatian clerics. Seven Catholic priests have offered to pay compensation to organisers if the show is cancelled.

Father Bobas, speaking to the Croatian newspaper Vjesnik, said that most of Manson's critics had never seen his act. The cleric, whose band is called Messengers of Hope, said the best concert he had attended was a Manson show in Hamburg three years ago.

The Book Of Metal: Chris Ingham

Bookbookofmetal_2Starting with 'A' for A Perfect Circle and Atari Teenage Riot and going ‘til 'Z' for Zombie, Rob – in his reference book Chris Ingham (chief editor of UK’s Metal Hammer) confronts us with the most important representatives within the rock, metal and industrial sector.

Nirvana, Paradise Lost, Skinny Puppy, Deftones, Ramones, Type O Negative, Killing Joke, Slipknot, Ministry, Tool, The Cult, Misfits, Black Sabbath, Smashing Pumpkins – the author wanders through various styles und offers well investigated band infos and bios, always decorated with stylish photos. You really notice his long-standing experience as journalist as you’re not getting the usual standard gossip but exciting and interesting facts, as well as some criticism when necessary. Apart from loads of bands Ingham also shortly examines the diffent styles, from gothic rock ‘til new metal.

Isa got to get me one of these, essential toilet book.

Did I just over step the mark? Is it bad that I've admitted to the read/crap combo?? Oh well bollox to it; if it wasnt the only place I can lock the door and be left alone then I might be inclined to feel embaressed.

Rhythms of the World

Yes it is that time again, before and after images taken from the FP office;

Rotw

Rotw3

Never one for the filth and stench of festivals I try to avoid it all costs. Unfortunately it comes with my home at the moment, once every year to be precise the town is doused with a huge helping of musical acts from all over the world, along with an estimated 25,000 people.

It all starts off beautifully; a sunny day, happy kids, and a seemingly cohesive multicultural community. Then the sun goes away, and everyone that'd been drinking since 11am decide to act like a bunch of fucking brain dead chimpanzees with the combined IQ of a wet fart (I'm sorry Mr & Mrs Chimp, it is an unfair comparison but it gets the point across).

So now to bed, mumbling to myself all the way of course and doing other grumpy old bastard type activities.

Blood on the Dancefloor

Warparty_2

On Thursday myself Tor and John were lucky enough to catch the mighty GWAR at the Mean Fiddler in London.  I have only now got myself clean enough to be able to come to the computer and relay the evening's events...

Not really - we were hiding up in the balcony to get a good view of the proceedings, thus avoiding all the trademark GWAR blood, guts, spew and other bodily fluids that were projected onto the surging sweaty bodies of the audience.  Party poopers maybe, but we did get a fantastic view, and after seeing some of the crowd at the end of the gig... hehe...

The support band were good - not really my cup of tea, but good.  The guitarist had particularly lovely blond locks I recall...  Can't remember what the band was called though. (John, Tor - you remember?!)

Then came the phenomenon that is GWAR and they didn't disappoint, despite the stage at the Mean Fiddler being too small for their full set.  Blood drinking, ridiculous costumes and over sized weapons galore and a healthy dose of irreverance were all part of the main course.  'Guest' appearances came in the form of Paris Hilton, Michael Jackson, Arnold Schwarzenegger, 'The Reaganator', George Bush, and 'the funniest man in the world' Osama Bin Laden who arrived carrying a huge nuclear weapon for 'Bring Back the Bomb' a song from GWAR's latest album 'War Party'.  Lots of disembowelment and amputation.  Marvellous!

I didn't catch any of the lyrics - which is generally the way at gigs I find, (shame really as I know most of their lyrics are very amusing...) but this didn't deaden my enjoyment of the spectacle at all!  A very entertaining evening :)  At the end of the show the lead singer Oderus Urungus proudly announced something like: "We're back, and we're never going to leave you again!!  We love you so much, but that doesn't mean we're gonna stop spewing on you..." and one of the GWAR slaves then wheeled out a large 'spew gun' and proceeded to spray the audience throughout the last song.  Ah, priceless :)

So, it seems, the mighty GWAR are back and bitchin.  An inside source of mine says they may well be over this side of the pond again fairly soon, so start looking out your cagoul and wellies...

(If you're unenlightened in the way of GWAR, check their myth out here... )

The 10 Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Myths.

Sid

Sid checks in at Heathrow;

'Punk romantics believe that Sid's mum scattered his ashes over Nancy's grave in Philadelphia. It's more likely that Ma Vicious arrived back at Heathrow with his remains. Malcolm McLaren claims she knocked them over in the arrivals lounge; hence the fanciful myth that Sid's essence still circulates, wafting through the air vents and moving among the travellers.'

Rufus Wainwright

‘singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist’ Rufus Wainwright was interviewed in today’s Music Monthly Magazine from The Observer by Kirsten Dunst a friend pointed out to me today. The reason for the notification came not because I have an interest in the aforementioned singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist but because of the shear arrogance of his retorts.

When asked about an LA Times critic writing a negative review he answered with;

“I was shocked to read in the LA Times the following day that a smattering of the audience, a kind of crazy minority, enjoyed the show while the rest didn’t get it. A show which consisted of me ‘singing with a terrible voice my terrible songs which had more to do with therapy than music’; and that the general feel of the evening was - and this is the reviewer’s word - ‘icky’. Obviously Miss ***** should have gone to see something more in tune with her lingo. In the end, though, I have to thank her because it inspired me to write a verse which starts with the word ‘critic’ and ends with the word ‘icky’ and mentions being on the rag in between.”

Not quite sure what else to expect from a guy who describes his own album as ‘having a good balance of the maze I tend to wind people around’, or indeed has publicity shots of himself in full medieval armour get up.

rufus_two

But I would have thought that his parents (both apparent musical geniuses) would have explained that if a lady critic doesn’t like your work it doesn’t necessarily mean she has her period but instead you could just be self-indulgent and, well, shit frankly.

I have never heard and any of Rufus Wainwright’s music, and thus this is not a judgement of his music……but a judgement of him.

So ner.

Lyrical Genius

mindbomb

Don't you just love it when you hear something that strikes you right to your very core. Something so completely apt and on a level of where your head is at that you keep having to check in the mirror to make sure a little man hasn't just climbed up inside your head and taken notes on the days thought patterns.

Been thinking alot recently about how some religions seem to have been distorted into tools for the manipulative to sucker-punch the weak with, just a crutch to support and satisfy their needs without any real spirituality....just like a blow up fuck-me-hole-doll.

Coincidently played Mind Bomb by The The later that day and was dumb founded by Matt Johnsons Lyrics;

"But if you think that Jesus Christ is coming Honey you've got another thing coming If he ever finds out who's hi-jacked his name He'll cut out his heart and turn in his grave"
