Girl's suicide leaves dozens ill from fumes

A 14-year-old Japanese girl killed herself by mixing laundry detergent with cleanser, releasing fumes that also sickened 90 people in her apartment house, police said Thursday as they grappled with a spate of similar suicides.

Emergency responders enter an apartment building in Konan, Japan, where a girl commited suicide.

None of the sickened neighbors in Konan, southern Japan, were severely ill, although about 10 were hospitalized, authorities said. The deadly hydrogen sulfide gas escaped from the girl's bathroom window and entered neighboring apartments.

The girl's suicide Wednesday night was part of an expanding string of similar deaths that experts say have been encouraged by Internet suicide sites since last summer.

A 31-year-old man outside Tokyo killed himself inside a car early Thursday by mixing detergent and bath salts, police said. A local police spokesman refused to give further details, but Kyodo News agency reported the man put a sign reading "Stay Away" on the car window.

“Cosmic Blast” Stimulating Mystical Experience Washes over Earth?

A most curious report is circulating in the Kremlin today, submitted by Colonel Boris Sokolov of the Ministry of Defense, one of Russia’s top UFO investigators, and wherein he states that ‘embedded’ within last months largest ever recorded Cosmic Blast was a ‘40 megahertz radio wave coded signal’ that could ‘stimulate’ the electromagnetic activity of religiously devout people by ‘substantially altering’ their brain frequencies.
The areas of the brain of devout followers of religion most likely to have ‘received’ this ‘cosmic message’, this report continues, had previously been identified by French Researchers from the University of Montreal, and who stated about their research:

“The main goal of the study was to identify the neural correlates of a mystical experience. Rather than there being one spot that relates to mystical experiences, we’ve found a number of brain regions are involved. This does not diminish the meaning and value of such an experience and neither does it confirm or disconfirm the existence of God,” explained lead researcher of the study Dr Mario Beauregard. ”

Colonel Sokolov continues in his report by stating that this ‘cosmic message’ would be first ‘understood’ by the most devoted followers of religion as their brain frequencies are more attuned to the 40 megahertz radio wave and that these people would be, most likely, found in cults.

Now, and most curiously, following this ‘cosmic message’ blasted at our Earth, both the United States and European Union have launched near simultaneous crackdowns against their respective religious cults…

If true the above has to be one of the most interesting pieces of news I have heard in a long time, for many different reasons. JH

A mysterious underground chamber has been found inside the Chinese imperial tomb guarded by the famous Terracotta Army, Chinese archaeologists say.

Historical records describing the tomb of Qin Shihuang, China's first emperor, do not mention the room which is 30 metres (98 feet) deep.

The unopened chamber was found at the site near the old imperial capital of Xian using remote sensing technology.

One expert says it may have been built for the soul of the emperor.

The Pluto – Galactic Centre Conjunction 2006-2008

In fact a little more detail about the Aeonic conjunction we are currently going through may be very useful. As has been said earlier Pluto is the signifactor of power, tension and eruptions from beneath the surface or from within. Its function is to transform all that it touches. In mundane terms it symbolises power relations, conflict, explosions, orgasm, sex, death, harvest, and a sudden profit from investment. Its grander significance is often political and cultural and involves the destruction of old forms and their replacement with something new. The galactic centre ‘in Sagittarius’ is physically the blackhole now known to be at the centre of our galaxy. Modern western astrologers regard it as signifying world historical change. The Mayans refered to the ‘centre of the cosmos’ as the home of the androgynous Hunab Ku, the ‘god of the gods’, who created the world and ordered the great cycles of the ages. He gave birth to a son at the beginning of each age, the last being Itzamna, the serpentine moon god and lord of knowledge, who brought a new culture to the Maya. New Agers combined the two and this has defused into popular astrology. For Lovecraftians it is variously the seat of Azathoth, or at least the primary gate of the Great Old Ones, whose emmisary is Nyarlathotep. We can expect to see sudden leadership change and perhaps administrations collapsing in 2007, if not whole political systems.  Culturally it will be intensely Plutonic, perhaps even Scorpionic. Which on a positive note is rather good for sex and investments. If Heraclitus was right, and he usually was, this period will be intensely Dionysian, for good and ill.

Astronomically Pluto reached exact conjunction with the Galactic Centre last year on December 29th 2006, a rare event occuring only every 248 years, the closeness of this to New Years Day (when it was fractionally seperating) means it will effect the entirity of 2007.  Pluto was within one degree of the Centre all last year, foreshadowing coming events, but became effectively conjunct (within a fraction of a degree) on Dec 3rd. This was further empowered by a rare planetary conjunction on Dec 10th,  when the closest visible conjunction of the three bright planets from 1971 through 2029 occured. Mars was about 1 degree from Mercury and Jupiter, which were about one third degree from each other, and all nearly conjunct the bright star Graffias in the head of the Scorpion, astrologically, around the 4th degree of Sagittarius (the sign of the Galactic Centre). Previously on the evening of the 9th Dec Venus had risen in opposition on the exact opposite side of the sky, also in Sagittarius (those who remember the Pleasure Lab rite carried out on the 9th Dec by the Dionysian Underground - and who realise that the androgynous Dionysos is associated with Scorpio, its head in particular, as well as know the connection of Mercury with trickster-clowns,  Jupiter with directors/ringmasters, and perhaps Mars with horned gods, all flavoured with the Dionysian-Hunab Ku of the Plutonic conjunction – may find this little event interesting!).

But the real activation came on Dec 19th when the Sun also conjuct Pluto on the Galactic Centre, an event that only happens once every 26,000 years!

Pluto is now moving away from the Centre, but will remain effectively conjunct until Jan 29th and will remain within 1 degree until March 29th (just before this on March 18 near the Equinox we have a partial Solar Eclipse after a total Lunar Eclipse on March 3rd which are also regarded as gates). At this point it will go retrograde and move back towards the Centre, reachieving effective conjunction on June 10th and exact conjunction on July 16th. It will then go direct and move away again, remaining effectively conjunct till mid August and within 1 degree till Sept 7th. At which point it moves forward again achieving a final exact conjunction on Oct 28th  near Samhain (having been in effective conjunction from about late Sept). It will then move away again, staying in effective conjunction till late November and within 1 degree well into 2008. However near the Solstice on 20th Dec an extremely rare conjunction of Jupiter with Pluto and the Galactic Centre, while also conjunct Mercury and the Sun (in near conjunction to the Centre) will occur, magnifying the effect again, with one last burst of energy. All of this commenced on a year which saw the 19 yearly Lunar Standstill last Sept.

It is no wonder some people are shitting themselves.

So what does it all mean? Looking at history may help.

The first known conjunction of Pluto to the Centre took place in 470-468 BC at 23 degrees Scorpio and witnessed the violent end of the Persian Empire in the West and the beginning of the Golden Age of Pericles that witnessed the introduction of democracy and a court system. Many of the new ideas adopted were of course Persian. No surprise that Pluto in its own sign of Scorpio would bring about endings and the death of the old order, both Greek and Persian, and historians speculate that if the Greeks had not prevailed against the Persians western civilization as we know it may never have occurred.

The next conjunction occurred at 26 Scorpio at 223-220 BC, at which time of great strife the Qin dynasty united seven waring kingdoms in China for the first time, and established the first Imperial Dynasty in Chinese history.

The conjunction at 30 Scorpio in 25-28 AD may have coincided with the death of Jesus of Nazareth (the exact date of his death is highly debated, but many astronomers believe that Jesus was actually born 4 BC when a comet may have appeared as the Star of Bethlehem or in 7 BC during an unusual stellar conjunction and that he lived 33 years (a ‘fact’ embeded in Masonic lore). A period that also saw an increasingly violent struggle between the Jewish Zealots and the Roman Empire. In which some claim the historical Christ was the would-be synthesiser of these opposites

The next conjunction of 271-273 AD corresponded to the increasing fragmentation of the Roman Empire and its schismatic struggles, as well as the birth of Emperor Constantine, who would reunite it with his introduction of the Sol Invictus Cult and finally Christianity.

The next conjunction was in 519-522 at 6 Sagittarius, coinciding with the end of a schism in the Roman church between the Eastern and Western branches over whether or not Christ had a dual nature (human/divine) or was purely divine, a theological argument (Sagittarius) and a brief unity. This period also witnessed the founding of an independent Jewish state in Babylon. Shortly after the conjunction Justinian compiled the Corpus Jurus Civilis, a fundamental text in jurisprudence (Sagittarius rules bodies of shared ideas, encompassing law as well as theology).

767-770., at 11 Sagittarius, witnessed the founding of Baghdad by King Khalif Abbasid Al Mansoor who established a center for learning there (Sagittarius rules higher education). The Caliphate rises and dominates the Middle East uniting fueding factions. This also marked the beginning of the Charlemagne period. Charlemagne was King of the Franks who conquered Italy and was crowned by Pope Leo III. His rule defined the Middle Ages and marked the first rule of a united Europe since the fall of the Roman Empire.

Next came the conjunction in 1015-1017 at 15 Sag, at which time the Muslim caliph Al-Hakim bi-Amr Allah destroyed Constantine's Church of the Holy Sepulchre. The reaction to this event in Europe was extreme, and likely was a precipitating cause for the Crusades.

In 1262-1264 Pluto was conjunct the Centre at about 19 Sagittarius. This period saw the first parliament in England after the Baron's War captured the then King Henry III. The Knights Templars, who emerged from the Crusades, had carefully played off the Royalists against the Barons to get this result.

In 1510-1512, Pluto conjunct the Centre. at 23 Sag, marked the acceleration of the Spanish gold trade in the new world (Sag rules exploration and adventure). Machiavelli wrote his landmark work The Prince, a treatise on gaining and maintaining power. Copernicus discovered that the earth revolved around the Sun. Martin Luther preached against papal indulgences that offered salvation for a cost in gold, beginning what was to become the Protestant Reformation.

The last conjunction before the present day occurred in 1758-1760 at 24 Sagittarius. Copernicus's treatise on his discovery was removed from the papal list of forbidden books where it was placed in 1610. The Seven Years War, arguably the first World War, began. This war marked the end of France's power in the New World and the emergence of Britain as the great Colonial power, changing the course of history. Also, 1758 saw the publication of the first treatise on the Atomic Theory, termed one of the most important theories in the history of science.

The general trend appears to be the emergence of two or more conflicted factions or forces from which a ‘higher unity’ emerges, and in the process culture as a whole becomes invigorated and new discoveries occur. An apparent dialectical progression seems present too. The effects seem mainly geopolitical and focused on the West (though this maybe a feature of the historical record rather than history itself).

Fortunately there is little sign of natural disasters associated with this conjunction by some astrologers, none of the world’s major volcanic eruption or earthquakes fit this cycle.

My own favoured perspective that the evolution of sexual culture and sexual revolution is linked to this conjunction is also partly born out. With in reverse order the revolution inspired by the Marquis de Sade having its origins around the mid 18th century as did Sexual Utopianism; the early 16th century seeing the emergence of the sexual aspects of the Rennaissance, on which we read, 'Renaissance culture was obsessively taken up with the kalidescopic aspects of transgressive sexuality, most specifically the insistent pull of family relationships and the counterweight of desire', it is also the first time we read of extra-marital sex, and soon after this the concept of ‘bundling’ is recorded, the early modern practice of courting couples laying in bed together half-naked ; the mid 13th century being speculatively associated with the full manifestation of the Troubadour cult of ‘courtly love’ within mainstream society (described by scholars such as Mosché Lazar as an adulterous sexual love with physical possession of the lady the desired end, rebelling against the earlier norm of arranged marriage); the Dark Age dates of 1015 and 767 have little going for them; 520AD is a probable last date for the writing of the Kama Sutra and the emergence of the culture it engendered; but 270 and 25AD are dates in a time widely associated with a reaction against pagan excesses, though brakes as well as accelerators are needed in any functioning movement; things are more interesting again in 220BC, being the period when Roman women were rebelling against the Oppian laws restricting their freedom, with an affirmation of their liberty, including its sexual form; and 470BC was a time of the flowering of Greek Sexual Culture with its pederasty and sacred prostitution. These dates thus roughly fit a pattern of sexual evolution, however some appear blank while other obvious areas (such as the ‘60s) are not included. This may be correctable by better research however (for instance squares, oppositions and trines between Pluto and the Galactic Centre may also be important) . We may thus expect coming times to become more sexually radical, perhaps in todays context in terms of Pansexuality and Polyamory, the only two areas with any controversy attached these days.

How the Conjunction effects particular indviduals will depend on how Pluto is placed in their chart, those who have it prominent, such those with Scorpio Sun signs, Moon signs or Rising signs, or with Pluto well placed will generally benefit from it, though perhaps in way not free of pain and loss, those lacking this may find the Conjunction is not so kind to them (perhaps at best missing them) though for most people Pluto is a malefic. Its area activity will depend on its position in their natal chart, for instance Taurus and Leo ascendents will benefit from the sexual aspects more than any other, in the long run, while Pisces ascendents will benefit more from the political aspects (the same applies to the Sun signs, but not as strongly). Those with Pluto in the Second House may find the Conjunction either emotionally draining or rewarding depended on how its aspected etc etc. How the energies are actually consciously worked with will also make a difference. A general rule of thumb is that those attached to old institutions and ways will suffer while those attached to progressive movements and new modes of life will generally prosper.

One final puzzle is how the retrograde Pluto will change its significance, this is a controversial issue in astrology some regard it as internalising an influence psychologically instead of in the outside world, while others see it as purely malefic. Both should perhaps be anticipated.

It looks like the year ahead will be an exciting time.

Catholic marchers turn on Glastonbury pagans

In scenes reminiscent of medieval witchhunts, Catholic pilgrims in Glastonbury have attacked pagans and threatened to “cleanse” them from the town.

Local pagans were pelted with salt and branded witches who “would burn in hell” during a procession organised by Youth 2000, a conservative Catholic lay group. The Magick Box, a pagan shop on the route of the march, was also singled out and attacked.

Maya Pinder, the owner of the shop, said: “We’ve had to hear comments such as ‘burn the witches’, we’ve had salt thrown in our faces and at our shop, people were openly saying they were ‘cleansing Glastonbury of paganism’.

Nice weather for ducks

I've been flyering around town for the one and only Social Schism over the last couple of days. I had a bit of a mission to get the flyers. It made me feel like a guerrilla artist running from pillar to post getting the pesky things sorted. I didn't have to pay for them so it was kind of cool going up and down the town, getting them, and coercing friends into cutting the A4 sheets they were printed on into four individual flyers on the hoof. (They are really just the poster image scaled down, in black and white, printed at a dad-of-a-friend's office but they are useful and free!) Last night I handed them out to the emo kids and boho wannabees at the Sun Rooms. Some of them are technically my friends so I shouldn't be too horrible....

I've two of the invited performers demanding where they should be on the running order but the cool thing is it's up to me. Every artist is a megalomaniac at heart, aren't they? Certainly, it is important to be in control as I am essentially the sole organiser but we all have to co-operate with each other to get a crazy venture like a poetry slam off the ground. In a town saturated with music-based entertainment and celebrity-centred theatre, Social Schism has been welcomed by so many of my Southend brethren it only makes me want to go forward with it. Positivity is a double-edged sword, particularly for a performer with manic depressive tendencies, but any response is better than none and if it is constructive then we can all benefit.

I'm really looking forward to it all now. Even though I haven't got a job and money is scarcer than ever, the thought of doing another great "Schism" has overtaken the general malaise I've experienced in the last few weeks. I did apply for another job and I have all the Job Seekers Allowance forms to fill out for an appointment with an advisor next Wednesday so that should be fun...

Oh, it really was nice weather for ducks today. I bumped into a duck round the corner from my house, it had strayed from one of the nearby duck ponds we have. I kept quacking to stop it straying into the path of oncoming cars. The drivers were patient with me as I ushered it back onto the pavement. The stupid creature kept waddling around in circles and then it was impossible to make it stay off the road. I didn't really want to leave it whilst it was still in danger of being squashed, so when I ran at it and it suddenly took off, I gave a sigh of relief.

See you on Thursday, FoolishPeople!

I'm special

Welcome to my world

I was born and raised in Southend-on-sea aka The Arse-end of the Thames. At 22, I was proclaimed a local legend, just before I had a six-week stay in a mental institution. I used to think I was Jesus, you see, and have in the past had messianic-type manic episodes. In fact, I was considering doing a solo show for my BA practical project called, My Mate Dave, and draw parallels of my experience with the life and death of David Koresh. In the end I played Kevin Riley in a production of The Erpingham Camp by Joe Orton, in May 2005. I was also the production’s dramaturg, if you don’t know what a dramaturg is, I’ll let you in on the secret eventually…

I am yet to finish my degree; I had to defer my dissertation unit until the forthcoming semester. I plan to do it on Brecht’s impact on contemporary political theatre; I think there’s plenty of meat in that sandwich.

Right now, I’m looking for some kind of job, which can utilise my theatrical know-how. I’m still looking. I’m going to the job centre today. I promise. I’m going to sign on for Job Seeker’s Allowance because I won’t be getting any more of those lovely Student Loans. L I got turned down for a telesales job yesterday but if I do get JSA then I will have to get my arse in gear with my job search. That will make my rent-hungry parents happy.

In the world outside of mind-numbing labour, I’m making a habit of organising monthly poetry slams. I’ve put on two already, the details of the next are coming up. I deejay a bit, rap a bit, write poetry and am looking to develop scripts by myself and other writer types in the unitary authority of Southend-on-sea. I’ll get some hot photos done soon and send them off to some casting agent or other, let me know if you know a good one (haha)! My favourite drink is the next one I get. I usually go to the boho enclave called The Sunrooms. That’s where you’ll find me on the 25th August.

Here’s the details for that Slam:

S-O-S Muckrakers presents:

Social Schism

Episode III: Revenge of the Miffed

Date: 25th August 2005

Time: 9pm

Venue: The Sunrooms, 20-21 Market Place, off High Street, Southend-on Sea

An open mic poetry event, with special guest Foolish People’s John Harrigan.

Poetry, Music, Symposium and, if you’re lucky, debauchery.

Your master of ceremonies will be, as ever, the inimitable Theodoric Muckraker.

How do I get to such a prestigious event, you ask? Well, if you are outside my manor, the nearest train station is Southend Central station on the c2c line. This line connects with the District Line at Tower Hill, Limehouse, West Ham, Barking and Upminster.

By road: A13 to central Southend. It’s useful to mix it up with the A127 but you need a map for that.

Go to google maps and type “Market Place SS1” for more.

Safe.

He came into this world naked, spent much of his time in it nude, but will - against his specific wishes - depart it fully clothed.

(After appearing naked on stage about sixteen times I can quite easily see the appeal to this.)

Blast_history

There are very few times when the British stiff upper lip becomes in anyway useful but this is truly one of them. Lets not forget that terrorist attacks are not a foreign concept to London, in fact we are sadly familiar.

I just hope that Blair remains as determined and strong at the G8 sumit as he has promised to be, the plight of the rest of the world can not be forgotten because we have now tasted what others have suffered.

Tony Blair's Statement.

BusIt was brief, he is leaving Gleneagles to head for London then return to the sumit this evening.

It has been made abundantly clear that G8 leaders have accepted this as an attack to divert attention from the summit.

A statement from said leaders is due soon to support that of Tony Blair.

Scotland Yard have reported that the bus explosion involved was indeed a result of a suicide bomber, the first to have struck in the capital.

Army Takes Control of London

BlastThe military seem to have taken over control from the police on the streets of London as people are still being evacuated from the bus and tube explotions.

Tony Blair is due to speak from Glen Eagles by midday, though there are no plans for him to leave the G8 summit.

My exorcisms get results, says voodoo priest of north London

Nexor19

The nondescript red-brick block in north London barely warrants a second glance, but inside one of the flats is concealed a bizarre world barely comprehensible to most people.

This is the home of Malcolm Poussaint, a self-styled "voodoo priest" who performs harrowing exorcism rituals on children as young as six whom their parents believe are possessed by demons.

Mr Poussaint sees nothing wrong with what he does. It is, he insists, work that has to be carried out.

"If the child is not exorcised then it will grow up to be horrible. I get results," said the 75-year-old, who is originally from Benin in West Africa.

(I'm sure your exorcisms do get results. Its the methods employed to get the results that are of concern. I dont see anything wrong with these ceromonies when they undertaken on a CONSENTING adult.)

"Weekend of Resistance" for Political Prisoner Jeff 'Free' Luers.

In June 2001, 23 year-old forest defense activist Jeffrey "Free" Luers was sentenced to 22 years and 8 months in prison for the burning of three Sport Utility Vehicles (SUV's) in Eugene, Oregon. To make a statement about global warming, Jeff and his codefendent, Craig 'Critter' Marshall, set fire to 3 Sport Utility Vehicles at a Eugene car dealership. Their stated purpose was to raise awareness about global warming and the role that SUVs play in that process.

No one was hurt in this action nor was that the intent. An arson specialist at trial confirmed that the action did not pose any threat to people based on its size and distance from any fuel source. Despite the fact that this action hurt no one, caused only $40,000 in damages and the cars were later resold, Jeff was sent to prison for a sentence considerably longer than those convicted of murder, kidnapping and rape in Oregon state.

Jeff is recognized as a political prisoner by the Jericho Movement and the Anarchist Black Cross Network and Federation and continues to write and agitate for his release while imprisoned at Oregon State Penetentiary. His appeal was filed in January 2002.

Rings of bone grown for couples

Couples who want to share more than vows are getting the opportunity to share their bone too in a "bio jewellery" research project.

Using bioglass, a special bioactive ceramic which mimics the structure of bone material, researchers are growing rings made out of the couples' bone.

Five couples are having the rings made. They will be grown from bone cells taken from their jawbone.

The project in London aims to ignite public debate about bioengineering.

Experts Hope to Show Ship Was Blackbeard's

This ones for Tor as she's currently on a Captain Jack Sparrow kick.

OFF THE COAST OF ATLANTIC BEACH, N.C. - Researchers Tuesday raised another cannon from an underwater site two miles offshore, and hope it will help prove the sunken wreckage was once the flagship of the notorious pirate Blackbeard.

"We knew it the first day and we still have absolutely no doubt that she's the Queen Anne's Revenge," said Phil Masters, whose Florida-based research firm located the wreckage in 1996. "There is no other ship lost at Beaufort Inlet with anything more than 10 cannon, nor more than 110 tons that we know of."
