Samm Hain - A Red Threatening Sky - Artists Profile

Samm Hain was born in Framingham, Massachusetts during the blizzard of 78'. His interest in the arts, occult and otherwise, were likewise born in Framingham. A writer and visual artist his writing has appeared in three anthologies: 'The Best Of Konton Magazine', 'Magick On The Edge', and Foolish People's 'Terra: Extremitas'. Currently residing in Portland Oregon his photography has been featured in a local Pacific Northwest Travel Guide. A frequent collaborator with Foolish People and part of the artist collective Cell 144 Samm’s work explores the mythic connections between art, life, and anarchy; the stories of what gets built in the ruins of the institutions that have failed us. He is currently writing a novel and illustrating and writing a graphic novel. Much of his work with Cell 144 can be found at flowerofkairos.com

Guerrilla Zoo and FoolishPeople present The Abattoir Pages, an immersive Halloween event, hosted in a vast, secret subterranean landscape that was once one of London's largest abattoirs. 

The Abattoir Pages combines immersive performance, art installation, haunting and treasure hunt-style activity to form a labyrinth of mystery and horror, exposing the earliest Gaelic and Pagan rites. Once inside, audience members will be free to explore the abandoned underground chambers, join the secret party or may be caught in the middle of the most terrifying of puzzles. 

This Hallowe’en, the infamous horror author Helen Mayer will hold court at a debauched secret party. She will share the perverse and warped research conducted inside the old abandoned abattoir, which was the genesis of her greatest work. In this dark playground, the very nature of human terror has been tested, abused and fed into the living story 'The Forest'. 

The author invites you to solve the puzzle and unlock the terrifying history within the old and powerful pages hidden throughout the slaughterhouse. Each holds a key to learning the truth of an ancient tale, which will ensure your survival. 

Tonight, a debt will be repaid to blood dishonoured. An eternal nightmare rises up from the depths of the dark boreal forest, in the shadow of the mountain. It comes to feed on new meat inside an old abattoir.

Guerilla Zoo and FoolishPeople present The Abattoir Pages, an immersive Halloween event, hosted in a vast, secret subterranean landscape that was once one of London's largest abattoirs.

The Abattoir Pages marks the evolution of the open source meta event as FoolishPeople partner with Guerrilla Zoo in an exciting first-time collaboration of two of London’s most renowned art organisations alongside cutting edge artists and performers. In addition we are excited to have the infamous purveyors of fine adventures, Hunter-Gatherers as part of our outstanding creative team.

The production follows FoolishPeople's critically acclaimed sell-out run of 'Cirxus' at the Arcola Theatre and precedes Guerilla Zoo's 'Season of Alejandro Jodorowsky' productions. ‘The Abattoir Pages’ is the prologue to a new, large scale work which will be undertaken by FoolishPeople in 2010.

"The 2nd sound/video piece for FoolishPeople's Terra:Extremitas is focused largely on running sound to video through circuit bent equipment. In addition to attempting to remote interface with the locale of the performance through google maps. This particular video acts as a juxtaposition between personal Nightside Qabbalah workings I have performed over the past year and their performance. "Why I draw comics is a hard one to answer. Being more than 30 years in 'bisnis', it has literally grown to be a part of daily (and nightly) life. So normal I don't think about it anymore. During this time I did a lot of different stuff, from short newspaper gags, biographical documentaries, infographics, SF-series and extremist political agitprop to booklength senseless train-of-thought meanderings. I prefer working for existing printed media over bringing out my stories as autonomous work, because that way I can reach many different audiences. I love participating with other artists in adventurous settings to learn from them and chase each other to greater heights."

About Terra:Extremitas: "Reality clashing with fantasy is something every creative mind likes to chew upon, and being a SF-buff the End of the World is well known territory to me. It was only natural to step into T:E when it popped up. In my comic strip contribution I focused on the process of creation itself and the deeper question what is real about reality, without getting too abstract I hope. Starting point was a great song by the German rock band Tocotronic (Pure Vernunft darf niemals siegen), a plea for fantasy and madness, which I tried to put 1-on-1 into pictures. Doing so the whole thing got out of hand, as it was supposed to do..."
